Another novella set in the BDB world I really like that JR Ward is writing these and giving us a glimpse into the lives of ordinary vamps who aren t Brothers As a warning, parts of this one get pretty intense Duran has been held captive and tortured for two decades, and there are some pretty graphic descriptions Our heroine, Ahmere, is AWESOME She s on a mission to save someone important to her, and is a baddass in her own right Plus we meet a collection of side characters in this one who are equally intriguing and have me excited about future novellas view spoiler like a female Shadow with some pretty amazing powers seriously, the women were spot on in this one hide spoiler It was entertaining, but it did not reach me emotionally This was too fast I didn t get to enjoy an actual romance The story is all action and suddenly, after 24 hours of meeting, the main characters are in love with each other It enjoyed reading, I liked the idea, but I needed To me this story doesn t belong in the BDB series It feels like a spin off series But as always happens with this universe s books, it was nice to read. I enjoyed this new cast of characters from the world of Jr ward It was a great storyline with great characters and villians It s about Duran who has been held captive and torchered by a evil warlord vampire chalen for over 20 years, but when ahmare brings the head of one of his enemies in trade for her brother who is also being held, she s sent to bring back chalen s beloved with the help of duran Great chemistry and dialogue a great short read.
warning there are multiple Dungeons Dragons references within this review If you don t want to get a bunch of nerd cooties, you should probably move alongConsidering this was a novella which means that insta love HAS to happen, it was pretty decent. The love story is between Duran, a guy who has spent the last twenty years being tortured in a dungeon, and Ahmare, a vampire girl who is trying to rescue her brother from the Dungeon Master Not that kind of Dungeon Master Besides, those idiots decided to rape and kill the inn keeper who wouldn t let them bring their tamed goblin wolves into the inn, and then rolled a fucking natural 20 I d bring out the dragon too If anyone at all whatsoever gets this joke, you let me know The above was a real life example of DD tomfoolery while I was DMing So, no, this DM is an evil guy who gets off on torturing people and makes sure everyone around him does his evil bidding.Again, wrong kind of Dungeon Master But, dammit, those morons insist on poking the fucking bear I will rain dragon fire down on their asses if they roll to rape one goblin Okay, so maybe I have a little bit of empathy for the Evil Dungeon Master He probably didn t start evil, but everyone around him was such an idiot that he just grew into it Maybe he had awesome plans when he first set up his lair It was supposed to be a great entertaining journey for his friends, but then they showed up and started fucking with everything and pillaging his stuff and killing his guards and suddenly he s the evil villain I get it, dude I get it.Also, this everyone in this story was saved by Oreos, which totally makes sense It just proves the thing I have always said One of my favorite authors, J.R Ward, released a novella set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series As this is one of my favorite series by her, I was very intrigued to see what this little treat would be like I ve always believed in Ward s writing, but wondered how her writing would fare with short stories As you know, her books tend to be on the long side, but I m happy to note that this story definitely fulfill my BDB fan needs nicely. This book is about Ahmare and Duran, two vampires who had had their fair share of bad luck Ahmare s brother has been taken from her and she must to many impossible things in order to get him back The most challenging is to track down someone with the help of Duran.Duran has been held captive for twenty one years and his first chance at escape involves working with Ahmare The two are very different in the beginning but you can definitely feel the way their love grows with for one another I like that Ward didn t make it about instalove, which is what you would normally see in a shorter story But she takes her time, creating conflict and tension while also building that romance in a believable way.I really enjoyed this story and I think if you re a fan of Ward and the BDB series, you ll want to read it to get your fix Reading this book makes me excited for the next installment as Ward continues to keep readers on their toes Read my review at Fresh Fiction This novella is set in the world of the Brotherhood featuring two entirely new characters Ahmare is seeking to gain her brother s freedom from Chalen, his brutal captor, forced to comply with demands that stretch her moral limits Duran is also one of Chalen s captives, imprisoned for 21 years because he won t divulge the location of something precious to this heartless leader of a silent force Ahmare and Duran are made to team up to fulfill the final challenge, both having similar goals but with differing motivations There s no lead up to the action in this story as it ramps up immediately We learn about Ahmare and Duran through their revelations to each other as they make their way to the secret destination Duran s tragic history is heartbreaking and despite the brutality he s experienced, there s a sense of innocence about him that tempers the violent aspect of his nature Ahmare is formidable in her own right and recognizes Duran s nobility I was struck by the constant contrasts of good and evil, violence and tenderness, passion and affection All transitioned at will, making this an emotionally laden story filled with contradictions And, as Duran s history is slowly revealed, the discoveries are shocking I was happy to get the audio version because Jim Frangione knows how to deliver these stories It moves at breakneck speed, not reading at all like a short story because so much happened Ahmare and Duran are always at the center and it was remarkable how well defined they become There are outcomes that I suspect will impact the Brotherhood and I don t think we ve seen the last of these characters This was such a good story and I m pleased to have enjoyed yet another novella in the series I received an advance copy from the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review Originally posted at Blue Mood Caf This might be the last time I buy a Ward book Damn it When will I learn Firstly, why is BDB in It has nothing to do with that Wrath might have been mentioned a couple of times and that s it Secondly, 5.99 for a novella Really And of course, a full book is priced at 15.99 tax Now If this was on the level of Lover Awakened I would have paid the money no questions asked But I fear Ms Ward peaked at that particular book And now we re waaaayyyy too many down the line, watered down, messy unintriguing numbnessI might dislike this book slightly less than Tohr s book Don t get me started with THAT one Reading others reviews WHY didn t I read them before I bought this I m somewhat mollified to know I m not alone The characters were uninteresting, I never could bond with them or care about them The story line was VERY loosely strung together I kept trying to skip to the good parts only to find there were no good parts to skip to Even the passion was not very passionate Very disappointed that Ward would continue to put out such mediocre work while milking the money cow with the BDB.Never again I m done falling for this trap Makes me FURIOUS that there were so many better authors out there charging for so much less but unable to get their work out to readers bc we ve got the wool pulled over our eyes with this crap.I should have stopped at Lover Reborn Biggest let down of the decade Learned my lesson tho True. *Download Book ☜ Prisoner of Night (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #16.5) ⇰ From New York Times Bestselling Author JR Ward Comes An Unforgettable Story Of Passion And Vengeance Set In The Paired With A Dangerous But Enticing Prisoner, She Embarks On An Odyssey Into Another WorldDuran, Betrayed By His Father, Imprisoned In A Dungeon For Decades, Has Survived Only Because Of His Thirst Unforeseen Peril, The Pair Are In A Race To Save Ahmare S Brother As Time Runs Out, And The Unthinkable Looms, Even True Love May Not Be Enough To Carry Them Through Beautiful tortured Duran so broke my heart Few authors could do tortured Heroes heroines the way JR Ward could The only difference was how I felt after reading Torture in books written by other authors only succeeded in driving me away, no , one and done I loved the way Ahmare saved him Totally deserved five extra stars If you loved the Shadows in the previous BDB books, there was kick ass Nexi, another Shadow for you to fall in love with The bonus This story didn t have just One but Two HEA couples Not one but two despicable villains I was in the BDB Heaven reading this should have been nightmarish story A love story in the midst of violence and payback I never read any of the other books in the series so I am not sure if I was missing something or not However, to me, this was a standalone I had no issues following the story. This book smacks you in the face soon as you start it It is raw and gruesome in parts, written with such imagery that you almost want to read it in bits and pieces due to the violence But it also compels you to never put it down It s a story about vampires, but not a traditional image that we normally would expect This is a story about the battle of good and evil A story of right over wrong A story of love, compassion, and understanding. It s a thriller and a romance with incredibly strong, fierce, and insightful characters that make you cringe on one hand and cheer for a well deserved happily ever after on the other hand.I don t typically read a lot of paranormal or urban fantasy books so I was intrigued to say the least There are few authors that can write a love story in the midst of violence and payback well and J.R Ward is one of the best Prisoner of Night by J.R.Ward is an all consuming read that may change the way you feel about paranormal romance Just be prepared
